Son Gual opened in 2007 as Mallorca's first true championship course, designed by German architect Thomas Himmel. Built on a 150-hectare estate near Palma, the course was conceived to host European Tour events and quickly became the island's premier golfing destination. The Himmel family's vision was to create a course that combined American-style target golf with Mediterranean aesthetics, resulting in a layout that challenges professionals while remaining playable for amateurs.
